Home Cleaning Tips: Are you a Procrastinator or Initiator When it Comes to Cleaning? It happens to all of us at some point in our lives. You would like to clean up the house but a little voice tells you to do it later. That “later” turns into a week and before you know it your sink is full of smelly mould producing dishes and your couches have more dust on them than a cowboy’s jacket. If you’re unmotivated or dreading to start cleaning up your home, there are certain home cleaning tips you can follow to condition yourself to start enjoying household cleaning chores. Procrastinating your clean up will only help you in making your home look more like a disaster zone than a place to live. Here are some home cleaning tips to get you motivated. Home Cleaning Tip #1: I find that if cleaning becomes repetitive or boring, I go out and purchase some sort of new and improved cleaning product or the latest home maintenance gadget. This way I don’t think of the chore as work but as an opportunity to try a new and interesting product that might lighten and shorten my work. Although it is a good idea to try new and improved products, make sure you keep only the best performing products in your pantry. Overloading your pantry with unwanted items creates clutter and may prevent you from accessing important items when they are needed. Some people don’t like switching to a different brand of products because they already trust their original one. If you’re that person I still have something to motivate you. All brand name cleaning companies consist of product lines that contain different pleasing smells. Home Cleaning Tip #2: Establishing a new scent creates an established mood and atmosphere in a room. Pleasant smells might invigorate and excite you into getting chores done quickly and efficiently. One smell might bring life to a room but combining several different smells together might do more harm than good. Combining several different scents may irritate guests or members of the family to a point that they might react badly to one or a combination of all. Change one scent from time to time until you find one that everybody enjoys. Home Cleaning Tip #3: This might be odd but if you want to get motivated to clean your home, try to invite somebody or several people over for dinner or party. This will force you into cleaning your home and making it looked organized because of the fact that you don’t want your guests to come into a dirty, messy home. Inviting people over might give you the ability to look at your house from a guests perspective. Be careful with this method though. You must give yourself enough time to clean up your home. When inviting guests over, provide a realistic date that allows you at least two or three days of cleaning time. Home Cleaning Tip #4: Another method that ties in well with inviting guests is to rearrange your room. This might sound like a terribly difficult and arduous task but it actually is not and the end result is more than worth it. Rearranging a room can develop a fresh perspective and maybe motivate you to do the clean up and rearrange other rooms in your house. Start with furniture items like couches and love seats and then move on to other items like tables, rugs, paintings, and any other items. This method is excellent to clean up clutter and make a room look spacious and open. I find that when I start making small changes here and there, I progressively start making more and more changes until the whole room has been rearranged. Following any of these home cleaning tips is a great way to distance yourself from procrastination. Remember to start out with small tasks rather than larger ones. This way you can visually observe your progress and motivate yourself to move onto harder and tougher cleaning tasks. |
